ZIMMERMAN'S LAWYER TO REQUEST FLORIDA TO REQUITAL A SUM OF $300,000 TOWARDS LEGAL COSTS
George Zimmerman, who was the exculpation in the shooting death of an unarmed teenager TRAVYON MARTIN rose protests across the United States, will request Florida to pay up to $ 300,000 of his legal expenses, his attorney told the Orlando Sentinel on Monday. Zimmerman will depend on the state law that grants a defendant who has been found not guilty to be paid off for costs related with a case, the paper reported.
Mark O'Mara, the lawyer of the 29-year-old Zimmerman, will soon prepare a motion seeking endorsement for costs associated with a case, and will submit the papers to the judge who presided over the case, the lawyer told the Orlando Sentinel on Monday evening.
O'Mara could not be contacted regarding this issue. Zimmerman was not able to reimburse the attorney fees under the law, but he could seek costs related to the trial such as expense for expert witnesses and an animated video that defense attorneys showed jurors, the Orlando Sentinel reported. The costs could range between $ 200,000 and $ 300,000, the paper reported.
Zimmerman being a Hispanic and white, was declared not guilty of murder and manslaughter on July 13 in Florida after a racially charged trial in the shooting of Martin, a 17-year-old African-American, in February 2012. Zimmerman was a volunteer watchman in the neighborhood in central Florida town of Sanford, at the time of the shooting and was reported that he acted on self-defense.May people demonstrated a lot of protests through the United States after the arbitrament.
